Disastrophe

Nobody knows how or why it happened, only that it was Extreme to the max. Billions died overnight, fire rained from the skies, and the earth split open. Volcanoes poured fire and ash into the atmosphere, blotting out the sun for several years, and giant waves crashed over the shores, erasing whole continents. Humanity was extinguished en masse. This was Mother Nature at her most badass, and the inhabitants of this world would rue the Disastrophe for an Eon to come. It was the end.

And yet, it was the beginning. The Diastrophe, although never fully explained, ushered in the Eighth Eon - the beginning of the backdrop for the tales set in Song of the Sorcelator, and is depicted as the reality of the "now" in Franzibald's Tomes.
