Back to The Definitive Sorcelator Timeline
Third World
The Third World is the term used to describe the setting of the Song of the Sorcelator. The timeframe it exists within is called the Eight Eon (particularly this term has its roots in Eliotism). The Third World was born out of the ashes of the Second World, which crumbled in the wake of (or perhaps precipitated) the Disastrophe. The world as it had existed was shattered and ruined, but out of the broken shards of the Second World was born a new Eon, imbued intrinsically with a certain degree of Extreme Awesomeness; for it was not until this time that the mysterious Sorcelators first appeared, able to comprehend and bend the Elementials to their will.
Throughout the books there are ample clues that despite the vast power and wealth of the Sorcelators, that the first and second worlds had much more developed economies. It is said that life expectancies in the first world were as much as double those in the conflict and starvation wracked third world. Hector Trecher at one point laments that as productivity and wealth were so much lower in the Third World than in the First or even Second World, that projects that would have been easy for First Worlders required enormous sacrifice to complete in the Third World. It is flat stated that the First World had enough Nano Arcane Deathray Amulets to destroy the planet several times over.
The First World may well have been claimed by an earlier Disastrophe, but there are multiple quotes indicating that it may have been something even more Extreme. The story in Night After Dark told by Mega Craig is generally considered to be the most probable by fans. Namely that a rain of Jaguars With Jetpacks fell from the sky while powered up by Nano Deathray Amulets and Strong Coffee, destroying everything, including one of the suns.
